Systems for shops, offices, workshops and industrial units that show what you need to see, keep footage long enough to be useful and let the right people check in remotely.
A home system watches the ways onto a property. A business system has to answer more specific questions. Who was at the counter at 2:14pm? Which vehicle came through the gate on Saturday night? Did the delivery actually arrive? Each question needs a camera in a particular place with a particular lens, and the recorder needs to hold enough days of footage that you can still find the answer when someone asks a fortnight later.
For a shop, the core positions are the entrance at head height, the counter from above and behind, the stockroom, and the rear door. An office adds reception and the server or comms cupboard. Workshops and factory units around Bundamba, Carole Park and Wulkuraka usually need the roller door, the yard and the gate, plus a camera that can read a plate on the way in.
Larger sites get cameras with a zoom lens or a pan tilt camera that an operator can move. Most small businesses do not need those. Fixed 4K cameras in the right places cover more than one expensive camera in the wrong place.
Business systems record continuously, not only on motion, so there are no gaps. Storage is sized to your retention period: more cameras and more days mean a bigger drive, and recorders can take more than one drive for longer retention.
Access is split by role. The owner has the master account. A manager might see every camera live and play back footage. A staff member might only see the front door on a screen at the counter. Nobody shares one password, and if someone leaves, their login is removed without changing anyone else’s.
This is where being a computer business helps. Cameras should not sit on the same open network as your EFTPOS terminals and office computers. We put the system on its own network or VLAN where the setup allows, change every default password and avoid opening ports on your router for remote viewing. It is the difference between a system that works and one that becomes a weak point.
You get a walkthrough for whoever will use the system, written warranty terms, and a direct number for Richard. When you change internet provider, move the counter or add a camera, the person who built the system is the one who changes it.
Thirty days is a sensible minimum for most businesses, because incidents are often noticed a week or two after they happen. Some keep sixty or ninety days. The answer sets the size of the hard drive, so we work it out at the quote.
Yes. The owner gets full access through the app, and managers or staff can be given their own logins that only show certain cameras or only live view.
Signs at the entrances are a good idea for any business, and telling staff in writing that cameras are in use is strongly recommended. Our industry pages go into the detail.
