A four camera 4K wired system starts at $1,690 installed. Here is what sits inside that number, what pushes it up, and how to compare two quotes that look nothing alike.
There are three ways most people start, and the prices are the same anywhere in Ipswich.
| Package | From | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Install your own cameras | $490 | Mounting and Cat6 cabling for a basic wired kit you already own, recorder connected, app on your phones |
| Four camera 4K wired system | $1,690 | Four 4K cameras, four channel 4K recorder with PoE, 2TB WD Purple drive, cabling through the roof, app setup |
| Active deterrence | $1,890 | Four 4K cameras with siren and strobe, eight channel recorder, 2TB drive, colour night vision, two-way audio |
All prices include GST. Equipment carries a three year warranty and the workmanship carries five.
The starting prices assume a single storey house with a tiled or metal roof and enough room in the roof space to work. That describes a lot of Ipswich lowsets and plenty of estate homes. Anything that adds time or materials gets listed in the quote as its own line, so you can see exactly where the money goes.
More cameras. Each extra camera adds the camera itself, a cable run back to the recorder and the time to mount and aim it. If you go beyond the recorder’s channels, a bigger recorder is needed.
A second storey. Upper floor cameras take longer to reach and the cable has further to travel.
Hard access. A low pitched roof packed with insulation, a raked ceiling with no roof space, or a highset house where the underneath has been closed in all take more time to get cable through.
Distance. A shed 60 metres from the house needs a buried cable or a wireless bridge. On acreage, the gate camera is often the most expensive one on the job.
Higher spec cameras. Number plate cameras, cameras with optical zoom and pan tilt cameras cost more than standard turrets.
Very cheap quotes usually save money in places you cannot see on the day. The cable runs along the outside of the house instead of through the roof. The cameras are lower resolution or a budget line with poor night vision. The drive is too small to keep more than a few days of footage. Or the person doing the work does not hold a security licence or cabling registration, which Queensland requires.
The way to compare is to ask every installer for the same details in writing: camera make and model, recorder model, hard drive size, cable type, where the cable will run, licence numbers and warranty terms. Once quotes list the same things, the price difference is easy to understand.
Choose an eight channel recorder now if you think you will add cameras later, so later additions are cheap. Put money into the cameras covering entrances and the driveway, and use cheaper cameras for low risk areas. If you are building, pre-wire at frame stage. And if you already own a decent wired kit, have it installed rather than buying new.
Yes. The quote is written and itemised, with camera models, recorder, storage and cabling listed, and there is no charge for the site visit.
Usually because of the cable, the camera quality and the drive size. Ask every quote to list the camera models, the cable type and route, the hard drive size and the installer's licence numbers. The difference normally explains itself.
Not with a wired system that records to its own hard drive. There is no cloud subscription. The hard drive will need replacing eventually, usually after four or five years.
Four for a standard block, and how corner blocks, highset homes and acreage change the count.
